Surgery
Soft-tissue Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery
Surgery of congenital vascular disorders of the liver, replacement of hip joints, neurosurgery (brain and spine) and feline kidney transplantation.
Laser
Our patients are treated with a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, the most widely used type of medical laser in the world. CO2 lasers produce an invisible beam that vaporizes the water normally found in the skin and other soft tissue. Because the laser beam can be precisely controlled, it removes or "cuts" only a thin layer of tissue at one time, leaving the surrounding areas unaffected. This level of control allows us to be extremely precise in every laser surgery procedure.
Diagnostics
Radiology
Colonial Veterinary Hospital is proud to offer the radiology and ultrasound services of Dr. Krista Ganelon. Dr. Ganelon is a Board Certified Radiologist. She evaluates all of the radiographs taken at our hospital and is a valuable resource to us in helping to make important decisions about your pet's care. In addition, Dr. Ganelon performs ultrasound examinations at our hospital and is often available for emergencies.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging, or sonography, is a method of obtaining images from inside the pet through the use of high-frequency sound waves. The reflected sound wave echoes are recorded and displayed as a visual image. No x-rays are involved in ultrasound imaging. Ultrasound is excellent in identifying fine lesions involving structures of the abdomen and chest. Ultrasound is also great in characterizing cardiac disease. In some instances, tissue samples may be obtained from abnormal organs.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy can offer tremendous benefits to our dog and cat patients. Without endoscopy to establish a diagnosis, any patient with acute or chronic GI (click able box with the following definition: chronic vomiting/chronic diarrhea/vomit w/ blood/blood in stool/chronic weight loss) symptoms is very difficult to diagnose. With intestinal disease, it is very important to establish an accurate diagnosis so the treatment plan is the best possible one for the patient. In addition, some of the chronic diseases of inflammation in the intestinal tract can lead to cancer in a percentage of patients.
