I first fell in love with Balboa Park when visiting on school field trips in early high school. I had always been interested in art but I had never experienced it in such a beautiful setting and diverse way. Living in San Diego for 10 years now I’ve been so lucky to experience Balboa Park’s flower gardens, theaters, hiking trails, architecture and museums. It’s great to visit for events like December Nights around Christmas time or just for a casual walk after work.
Sometime in June we walked around and I shot some snippets of my favorite areas.
The bell tower is beautiful in it’s church style setting. I love the intricate moldings and attention to detail that cover so many of the buildings. I just learned the tower was recently opened to the public and you can now climb all 7 floors to the top.
The Spanish style Alacazar Garden is filled with over 7, 000 different types of flowers blooming all year round. I didn’t get a picture of the fountains, but there are many. It also smells so good and has a perfect view of the bell tower.
We ended the night with a “surf” themed art show at the San Diego Museum of Art. I know you aren’t suppose to take pictures in museums, but I couldn’t help capture the pink lighting and chandelier. Wow!
